d**n, when I started with it everyone used it.
Anyway, the sound is prolly the worst of the ensoniq keyboard/rack species. I rank em this way...
1. EPS16+ 2. ASR10 3. EPS
I used to make the EPS sing tho.

other than sample time i mean......it still has the sampling rates and 12 bit sound...

Just the sound quality is not as good as the 16-bit ensoniqs. I don't mean because it's 13-bit, it's just the low end doesn't cut through as well as on the 16+.
On the other hand, the sequencer is much snappier than on the ASR10, no real skips or anything. It's only 48 ppqn (ASR is 96ppqn), but it does hang together better. Actually I like the whole series but I've lived through all of em and I think the EPS16+ is prolly the best (rack).

d**n, i got it thinking that the 16bit ones are so nice and warm that 12 bit could be a nicer feel, does it filter the hi's and lo's(other than the low end not cuttin through that much) the same way as the ASR/EPS16???

The series from EPS to ASR has basically the same digital filter architecture inside. The interface is identical... Actually long ago when the EPS came out, it was one of the few "pro" samplers with high-pass and (resultingly) band-pass filtering.
You'll find that the EPS does have a more RAW sound to it, grittier also. The many sampling rates and ability to remove the anti-aliasing filter allows for more strange uses of the sound engine, more artifacts etc... I still think it creates the best hi-hats.. but then again, kicks are prolly more important.

may look like a calculator but if it works and samples...i;m straight with it....I got it for less than the price of a TI-83 but if the TI-83 sampled, and I bought it for sampling, I'd buy that too.... ;D
i'm glad to hear that the sound is grittier though cuz thats what i need.....and if it got the asr's warmth, then i'm good too....i'll make do with it for now....

You can love the EPS pretty easily. It's not like it sounds terrible or anything. I'm very picky, but you can make great music on any sampler. The EPS is most def. warm sounding. Compared to other samplers (Akai, Kurzweil, etc...) only Emu is warmer IMHO.
Guys, what other gear are you using?

mpc 2kxl(which brings me to my question below), jv-1080, triton, motif, mo phatt(samples from vinyl) ...thats it as far as production
if the EPS only has like 11 seconds sampling time and for some reason I need more....I could always sample into the MPC from the EPS without losing much quality couldn't I? my MPC is maxed out

You could sample into the MPC (or the triton, or the motif...). Depending on what you sampled, I don't think you'd lose much quality.
I think you will notice the biggest change (good or bad) on drum samples since thats the element that repeats over and over again, at usually close to full-scale levels, and your ear will have the best chance to notice the difference. On more musical samples, I usually notice less of a difference sampler-to-sampler, and the impact is even less on stabs and whatnot.

I've got lots of disks around but no way to transfer to PC. I've never used the software that does it... and I don't have a floppy drive in my laptop(!).
Maybe I'll figure out a way soon. How do u normally trade sounds?

The EPS can play back 16 bit samples, but it can only sample at 12 bit, I have used Wavelab ( by Steinberg) to record a sample then upload it to the EPS via MIDI with the Wavelab program. So the sample plays back at 16 bit. And yes I still use it in the studio, very little mind you but there are a few sounds (only about 7) that I do still use.
