you can assign a key range to each wavesample on the EPS 16+. probably same on EPS classic. after you have created the sample, press edit / pitch / then scroll to WS RANGE LO; HI. choose the same key for low and hi.
Page 7-10 of the 16+ manual.

You mean like you record a sample (not a sequence) that has a beat, and then get the machine to figure out what the tempo of that sample is?
I don't think anything created in the 80s can do that. You have to work around it by restarting the note that starts the sample-with-beat every however many bars make sense for that sample. And just fiddle with the tempo for the other voices until you get it right.
Does that make sense?

The easiest way I know is to select the wavesample, and then:
1) go to Edit->Env and select the CYCLE mode so that the wavesample plays to the end. 2) go to Edit->Layer and select Glidemode==MONO so that the wavesample cuts itself off 3) go to Edit->Sequence and create a 1-bar sequence with the sample triggered appropriately. 4) twiddle with the sequencer tempo/bpm until the loop is smooth.
The final tempo/bpm is roughly the wavesample's BPM.
Since the EPS doesn't have fractional BPMs you may need to edit the wavesample's pitch a little for a seamless loop.

fiddle or twiddle. either will work, but i prefer fiddling.
