[glow=green,2,300]ok, so how can I build a song so I can just press *play* rather than play the song out in real time. Is it possible to record a whole beat than go back over and layer instruments and samples on top? [/glow]

Song mode is covered in the (online) manual. It basically involves going to song mode and selecting sequences in order and repetitions associated with each sequence. This is equivalent to a song "step".
And yes, after you've arranged a song with up to 8 tracks, there are an additional 8 tracks that you can use to record instruments solos or one-shot type things. However, I've never used the additional 8 song-tracks since I've never mastered the locate feature on the ASR/EPS. However, there is a locate feature I think, but somehow I recall it causing crashes... or maybe not. See, I wasn't lying... I never really used it.
Anyway, the manual explains song mode in detail for the ASR.

Haha thanks for the reply Tbiggz, I'm gonna check it out tonight. I had NO idea that I could have an additional 8 tracks to oneshot and solo over... thats monumental. Previously I had been playing them out in realtime to my DAW, and sometimes I got cool results if I forgot to go to the next sequence, and actually stuck an intro in the middle, but that would become a breakdown, and I would add oneshots on my DAW. I think ill refer to the manual and master that locate sh*t, I'd like to think that one day there wont be a feature on the board I dont know how to use! ++++ keep it consious>
