A sustain pedal is basically a binary latch.
ie: 0 = on and 1 = off or the otherway around
and
down = 0 and up = 1 or the otherway around.
Different manufacturers use a different protocol, ie some have down/on as 0 and others as down/on as 1.
It would appear that you have discovered that Roland and Ensoniq use the opposite protocols. That means your peadal is sending the opposite binary signal to the one the ASR is expecting to receive.
An electronics oriented person might very easily be able to reverse the latch by re-wiring the pedal.
Otherwise, you bought the wrong brand, and you need to exchange it for one with the latch the other way around (ie a brand which has the same effect on a roland keyboard as yours is having on the ensoniq).
